WE DO! The Pigg River Ramble May 13-15, 2011 in Franklin County Virginia - In the Shadow of The Blue Ridge
The Ramble is a three day river recreational event for canoe/kayak enthusiasts. It is the Franklin county’s premier outdoor recreational event. Franklin County Virginia, in the shadow of the Blue Ridge. Sponsored by Rocky Top Building Products, the 10th annual Ramble is scheduled for May 13-15, 2011 and consists of:
Approximately 250 people participate in a non-competitive night float on the Blackwater River. Multiple sponsors include McAirlaids, SleepSafe Beds, Longwood Signs, and Mountain to Lake Realty.
Pigg River Ramble
A canoe/kayak competitive race and fun float is held on the Pigg River.
Approximately 300 individuals participate in this event which is the highlight of the weekend. Winners of the various categories of the competitive 8 mile race are presented with trophies and medals at an awards ceremony. Sponsored by Duncan Ford, the ceremony, held at Waid Park, includes a BBQ dinner.
Breakfast on The Blackwater
The final event of The Ramble Weekend includes a float, a stop for pancakes/eggs/bacon,etc.. served on the banks of the Blackwater River, and a post-awards ceremony. Participants in all three day race/floats enter into a drawing for a new kayak given away at the breakfast. The event is sponsored by Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Partners organizing The Ramble Weekend are Cable 12, Community Partnership for Revitalization, Franklin County Parks and Recreation, Franklin NewsPost, The County of Franklin, and The Town of Rocky Mount.
Stay with us at The Claiborne House Bed and Breakfast, we are just 8 miles from the start of the Pigg River Ramble and less than 2 miles from the take-out. We are also only 3 miles from the Blackwater River. We have plenty of off-street paved parking, a row of canoes and kayaks are welcome to grace our fenced grassy back yard! (along side ours of course) and then PRAY FOR RAIN!
Remember y'all this is a float or a race, whichever you choose in whatever you choose. Dress up for vessel, bring the dawg along...it's all about fun!
