Slow Travel Thoughts

I've often pondered gardening, and how you could spend 2 hours every day maintaining a large yard, and do a pretty good job of it, or you could spend 2 hours every day just manicuring and perfectly landscaping a tiny area of 4 square yards/meters. Either job could keep your time fully utilized. It just depends on how much detail you want to put in to your effort, and how perfect you want the result.  


Likewise, there's a concept called slow travelwhich is quite the opposite of seeing 5 cities in 5 days. It's more like spending 5 days getting to know one city, or in the case of Pocahontas, getting to know one little town. Slow travel is about walking, not driving. It's about noticing, and appreciating, every detail around you. It's about walking into a small town barbershop and having Floyd the barber give you a haircut, and talking with him while he works, as you learn about his life and he learns a bit about yours.
